Five weeks, endless discoveries—716 Squash Summer Camp empowered youth to learn, create, and thrive.
This summer, 716 Squash hosted another successful five-week day camp designed around experiential, hands-on learning. Each week centered on a unique theme that encouraged creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork while connecting academics to real-world applications.
- Crime, Psychology, and the Law: Students explored serial criminals, forensic science, laws and justice, political resistance, and debate, building reasoning and investigative skills., complete with solving a mystery around a smashed squash racquet.
- Architecture, Design, and Engineering: With a focus on fashion, robotics, computers, and the trades (electricians, carpenters), students learned how things are built and invented—designing their own “make and take” projects., including building roller coasters and functional hydraulic bridges.
- Humanities and Ancient Anthropology: Campers studied ancient civilizations such as the Egyptians and Sumerians, examining symbolism, jewelry, tattoos, and cultural artifacts while discussing how societies express identity and status.
- Entrepreneurship (Shark Tank Week): Students learned the basics of business, wrote plans, and pitched their ideas to a panel of judges in a culminating showcase.
Beyond the classroom, students expanded their horizons with enriching field trips to Pittsburgh, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, and Fantasy Island. They also raised chickens and cultivated a vegetable garden at Ms. Linney’s house, experiencing agriculture and sustainability firsthand.
Throughout the five weeks, campers engaged deeply with new ideas, challenged themselves creatively, and built lasting friendships—all while having a blast!
